WHE NDT provides Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) inspections for street lighting columns and associated structures, helping asset owners manage safety, compliance, and lifecycle costs.
Street lighting assets are exposed to corrosion, fatigue, and environmental damage. Our inspections identify hidden defects before failure, reducing risk to the public and supporting informed maintenance decisions.
Prevent sudden column collapse
Identify internal corrosion and wall loss
Support highway authority duty of care
Reduce unnecessary replacement through condition-based maintenance
Provide independent inspection evidence for audits and insurers
Our inspection methods are selected to suit column type, material, age, and environment, and include:
Ultrasonic Thickness Testing (UT)
Measurement of wall thickness to identify internal corrosion and material loss, particularly effective at ground line and door aperture zones.
Magnetic Particle Inspection (MPI)
Detection of surface and near-surface cracking on ferromagnetic components such as base plates, welds, and brackets.
Visual Inspection (VT)
Assessment of external condition, corrosion, deformation, impact damage, and fixings.
Targeted Weld Inspections
UT or MPI of critical welds where deterioration or cracking is suspected.
Highway and local authority street lighting
Car parks and public realm lighting
Industrial estates and commercial sites
